Good morning, all appraiser committee members. I am Deng Ting and my

supervisor is Mrs Xu. With her constant encouragement and guidance, I have finished my paper. My deepest and heartfelt gratitude goes to Mrs. Xu. At the same time thank these teachers for participating in our oral defense in spite of being very busy. Now, it is the show time. I will present my efforts to you and welcome any correction.

The title of my paper is On Translation of Loanwords . I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. We all know that loanwords also refer to the borrowing words, and it is a product of language contact. Since the 1980s, with the increasingly frequent contact and communications between China and the rest of the world, a lot of new things and ideas are introduced into China which is bound to cause loanwords from English into Chinese with unprecedented scope and speed. Loanwords involves in every field of social life in the new period, appearing new borrowing climax in the history. Which make the study on translation of loanwords be very necessary.

Next, it is an outline of my paper. In the main part of this paper, I divide it into five parts. Part one presents an introduction for some scholars’ researches on translation of loanwords from different angles. Part two provides an overview of loanwords including the definition of loan words, classification of loanwords, booming periods of loanwords from English to Chinese and the significance of loanwords translation. Part three present existing problems on translation of

loanwords: fake transliterated words may cause semantic fuzzy; many versions of translation for one single word often Lead to confusion in language use; some peculiar forms of loanwords cause obscure semantic expression; unconventionally formed loanwords will corrupt Chinese normalization. Part four on the basis of previous analysis we explore the loanword translation skills respectively from

principles and translation methods. Part five draws some conclusions that translation skills is necessary for us to achieve good translation. In addition, we must

continuously study and explore in all kinds of translation practices.Hope that it will help promote the reasonability and normative of the introductions of loanwords in future cultural exchanges.

四年来，我遇到了比别人多的挫折与失败，但也取得了相对较多的荣誉，抽屉里一沓证书可以证明。记得四年前的我在公共场合讲话都会脸红、发抖，当了两年半的班长，一年半团支书，在班上或其它地方发言过无数次，虽然不是演讲，但的确让我变得勇敢了，现在还会紧张，但再也不会脸红、发抖，除非是激动。感觉最成功的一次是给入党介绍人协会介绍自己的入党历程，下面的朋友给了我很多笑声和掌声。我发现对着镜子的练习不是多余的。

热爱运动使我拥有了健康的体魄。中学时代，如果拿不到三好学生称号，那一定是因为体育考试不合格；第一次做引体向上得0分；每次第跑总是倒数前三；参加运动会，只能做啦啦队队员。现在不是了，学校组织的体能测试，我总是排在小组第一；参加篮球比赛我总是身先士卒，一场拿了26分；乒乓球，羽毛球，桌球，游泳等各类体育活动我都玩的不错。

有志者，立长志；无志者，常立志。我不是那种意志坚定的人，经常和同学去网吧玩游戏，一无就是好几天，每天玩好长时间，饭也顾不上吃；也会租了碟回来整下整夜的看；或者叫几个人去喝酒，喝的酩酊大醉，想骂谁骂谁……我管这些事叫堕落，每次堕落完后，就会有种罪恶感，然后坐下来认真思考，立志振作，一阵子过后又会去堕落。幸好，这些不长进的行为并没有淹没我一个壮志青年的精神孤岛，并没有让我迷失了方向。但是更重要的是我得学会坚持。

最遗憾的是大学四年，拿了两年一等奖奖学金，一年二等。我却对所学专业知识一窍不通，一考完试就全部还给老师。以至现在找工作一听说要专业测试，立马投降。马上就要走上社会了，以后可不能再这样不踏实了。

许多师兄师姐感慨，大学不谈恋爱是失败的。但我谈恋爱并不是害怕失败。和女友从相识、相互帮助到相知、相互爱慕是一个很自然的过程。她带给了我无限多的欢乐，也让我变得像她一样的善良与宽容。但是，女友并不在我身边，有过多次想弃她而去，问自己是不是真的'爱她，最终决定，爱！有始无终，一辈子！

讨厌苏州大学北校区食堂的饭菜，但我很感激我的老师和同学们。有的老师对我严厉，有的老师特喜欢我，他们在教授我知识的同时，也教会我完善我的人格。我很感激。我把每一个同学都当成朋友，用真诚与真心与他们交往，相信他们也是。

Good evening, all the appraiser committee members. I come from HUST, majoring in foreign linguistics and applied linguistics. I am and my supervisor is prof.. With her sincere and intellectual guidance, for nearly one whole year's hard work, I have finished my paper. Finally, it is the show time. This evening I will present my efforts to you all and I gratefully welcome any correction.

The title of my paper is A Study of the Causes of the Gothic Style

in A Rose for Emily from a Feminist Perspective. I choose this as my topic due to the following reasons. Firstly, I am fond of literature works , especially gothic literature works. Secondly, I am quite familiar with this short story as this is one of the texts in our intensive teaching course and I have taught this text for more than 3 times . Last but not the least ,as a female , I am keen on the study of feminism. For the above facts, I select the subject of A Study of the Causes of the Gothic Style in A Rose for Emily from a Feminist Perspective as the title of my paper.

I hope by studying this short story we can know more about American southern women in certain history and culture and more importantly help women in modern society get a deeper understanding about ourselves ,help us raise our independence and confidence and show more concern for our mental health.

Next , I will present it to you. Here is an outline of my presentation. They are literature review, gothic tradition , the gothic style in the story and the causes of the gothic style .

This paper consists of six parts. Part one presents an introduction to the author William Faulkner and A Rose for Emily by pointing out the purpose and significance of this study. Part two is literature review which introduces the relevant research about this novel at home and abroad and then points out the theoretical basis and methods. Part three gives a timeline of the gothic tradition in literature and explains the main characteristics of gothic works. Part four explains the three aspects of the gothic style in the novel，that is, the death theme, grotesque characters and mystic atmosphere. Part five then explains in detail the causes of the gothic style in this novel: patriarchal oppression, the myth of southern ladyhood and Emily’s attitude towards love. Finally, in the conclusion, the author summarizes the previous parts and emphasizes the significance of the argument of the thesis again.
