To see the golden sun and the azure sky, the outstretched ocean, to walkupon the green earth, and to be lord of a thousand creatures, to look down giddyprecipices or over distant flowery vales, to see the world spread out underone's finger in a map, to bring the stars near, to view the smallest insects ina microscope, to read history, and witness the revolutions of empires and thesuccession of generations, to hear of the glory of Simon and Tire, of Babylonand Susan, as of a faded pageant, and to say all these were, and are nownothing, to think that we exist in such a point of time ,and in such a corner ofspace, to be at once spectators and a part of the moving scene, to watch thereturn of the seasons, of spring and autumn, to hear---

The stock dove plain amid the forest deep,

That drowsy rustles to the sighing gale.

---to traverse desert wilderness, to listen to the dungeon's gloom, or sitin crowded theatres and see life itself mocked, to feel heat and cold, pleasureand pain, right and wrong, truth and falsehood, to study the works of art andrefine the sense of beauty to agony, to worship fame and to dream ofimmortality, to have read Shakespeare and Beloit to the same species as SirIsaac Newton; to be and to do all this, and then in a moment to be nothing, tohave it all snatched from one like a juggler's ball or a phantasmagoria……

树林随微风的叹息而低语 ;

What are you passionate about? Dare to express and expand that passion in everything you do.

Stand back and look at your life from a distance, as an objective observer. What you'll see is a pattern, a common thread running through all the various aspects of all that you have done.

That common thread is connected to a passion living deep inside of you. The more fully you allow that passion to flow from you, the more richness your life will know.

The more readily you admit and express that passion to yourself and to the world, the more fulfilling your moments will be. Keeping it hidden and suppressed will only lead to pain and regret.

There is a passion in you that is constantly pushing to see the light of day. Let it out and let it grow.

That passion is a unique and precious gift

When you experience a setback, it may seem natural to rering your expectations. Yet that is not the only choice you have.Just imagine what would happen if you did exactly the opposite. Just imagine what would happen if you decided to raise your expectations in response to each setback.

With such a strategy, negative momentum never has a chance to take hold. For even the disappointments serve to push you forward

Your current expectations have much more power and influence than anything that has occurred in your past. For it is your current expectations that give direction to your energy and your actions.

Choose to make that direction a positive, valuable, creative one. From even the most burdensome difficulty, you can begin to move forward immediately.

Base your expectations on your most treasured dreams and your most profound purpose, rather than on life's random events or circumstances. And nothing will be able to hold you back for long.

No young man believes he shall ever die. It was a saying of my brother's,and a fine one. There is a feeling of Eternity in youth, which makes us amendfor everything. To be young is to be as one of the Immortal Gods. One half oftime indeed is flown--the other half remains in store for us with all itscountless treasures; for there is no line drawn, and we see no limit to ourhopes and wishes. We make the coming age our own.

The vast, the unbounded prospect lies before us.

Death, old age, are words without a meaning, that pass by us like the idleair which we regard not. Others may have undergone, or may still be liable tothem--we "bear a charmed life", which laughs to scorn all such sickly fancies. As in setting out on delightful journey, we strain our eager gaze forward.

Bidding the lovely scenes at distance hail!

And see no end to the landscape, new objects presenting themselves as weadvance; so, in the commencement of life, we set no bounds to our inclinations, nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them. We have as yet foundno obstacle, no disposition to flag; and it seems that we can go on so forever. We look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseless progress;and feel in ourselves all the vigour and spirit to keep pace with it, and do notforesee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind in the naturalcourse of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave. It is thesimplicity, and as it were abstractedness to our feelings in youth, that (so tospeak) identifies us with nature, and (our experience being slight and ourpassions strong) deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it. Ourshort-lives connection with existence we fondly flatter ourselves, is anindissoluble and lasting union--a honeymoon that knows neither coldness, jar,nor separation. As infants smile and sleep, we are rocked in the cradle of ourwayward fancies, and lulled into security by the roar of the universe aroundus--we quaff the cup of life with eager haste without draining it, instead ofwhich it only overflows the more--objects press around us, filling the mind withtheir magnitude and with the strong of desires that wait upon them, so that wehave no room for the thoughts of death.

Fourscore and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon thiscontinent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the propositionthat all men are created equal.

Now, we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation orany nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a greatbattlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as afinal resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation mightlive. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannothallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, haveconsecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will littlenote nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they didhere. It is for us, the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinishedwork which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is ratherfor us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us---that fromthese honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gavethe last full measure of devotion; that we here highly resolve that these deadshall not have died in vain; that this nation, under God, shall have a new birthof freedom; and that government of the people, by the people, and for thepeople, shall not perish from the earth.

The lives of most men are determined by their enviroment. They accept thecircumstances amid which fate has thrown them not only resignation but even withgood will. They are like streetcars running contendedly on their rails and theydespise the sprightly flitter that dashes in and out of the traffic and speedsso jauntily across the open country .I respct them; they are good citizens, goodhusbands, and good fathers ,and of course somebody has to pay the taxes; but I donot find them exciting. I am fasinated by the men, few enough in all conscience, who take life in their own hands and seem to mould it in to their own liking. It may be that we have no such thing as free will, but at all events, we havethe illusion of it. At a cross-road it does seem to us that we might go eitherto the right or to the left and ,the choice once made, it is difficult to seethat the whole course of the world's history obliged us to take the turning wedid.

To conquer our fears, we must go past them.

To fear is natural; to go past them is heroic. Fear is a normal part oflife, symbolizing that there are new, extraordinary things to come across andface. To be able to see these things before they happen is a sign of wisdom.Fear is nothing out of the ordinary. To admit that we are fearing is to provethat we value our life.

And men should pay attention to the call of fears. To truly be a leader orsomeone who is heroic and brave, we should focus on getting past these fears. And it is frightful for people to go through life ignoring fears, because theymay often forget their heart and step into life without responsibility.

To be born is to live. To live is to fear. To fear is to be challenged. Toaccept our fears is to be mature. It needs bravery, maturity and vitality toface our fears, accept the challenges and hope for the best.

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a tempera-mental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.

Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spring back to dust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at 80.

During these two years, we have seen many movies about the youth, thedirectors try to remind people of their passed early days. Indeed, when peoplesee the movie, they feel the situation is so familiar that they could not helpthinking about their days in the school. As for me, when I see the movie, I willthink about my high school days, it was so unforgettable for me, my friends andI studied so hard together, our strong friendship was built at that time, thestupid things we did always makes me laugh. Everyone will have an unforgettablememory in their early life, the memory fulfills their life.

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter ofrosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees. It is a matter of the will, quality ofthe imagination, vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springsof life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of theappetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow oldby deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.Worry, fear, self distrust blows the heart and turns the spirit back todust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living. In the center ofyour heart and my heart there is a wireless station, so long as it receivesmessage of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from theInfinite, so long are you young.

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows ofcynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but aslong as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there is hope you maydie young at 80.

When someone looks into your eyes they should see something alive withinyou. Having a dream is like owning a lighthouse1 which directs you on yourjourney.

At every turn we come across its mystery. At each new level we become moreof the person we were meant to become. In lonely times, when we pass through astorm of disappointment, we find our faith is unshaken, our strength stillstrong.

Believe in your faith. Set the vision before your eyes. Write down yourmost sincere dreams and when the opportunity comes, step into your dream. It maytake one season or more, but the result is the same. Make big dreams and then goout and make them realities. The highest hopes of the dreamer are revealed withevery step taken in their journey to the impossible. For a season we mustprotect the dream so that it can grow quietly on the inside. But if we tenderlycare for our deepest expectations, slowly but surely the dream will become newlife.

Dreaming is an act of faith. The light of your expectations will cast offthe shadows of a disbelieving world. God has given us the dreamer as a gift tolight an unbelieving world.

Find your treasure within and cherish2 it. Tomorrow is waiting for you totake the first step.
